Rep. Bera Calls for Clean Vote on Comprehensive Congressional Stock Trading Ban WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, U.S. Representative Ami Bera, M.D. (CA-06) released the following statement after House Republicans added restrictive voting provisions to a bill on congressional stock trading: “I strongly support a stock trading ban. I have cosponsored two comprehensive bipartisan bills and signed two discharge petitions this Congress to ban Members of Congress, their spouses, and dependent children from trading or owning individual stocks. “Republicans squandered what could have been a strong bipartisan vote by attaching voter suppression provisions from the SAVE America Act to this bill. These burdensome restrictions would make it harder for eligible Americans to vote and would disproportionately impact seniors, people with disabilities, rural voters, low-income Americans, and working families. “This cynical move is exactly why so many people are fed up with Washington. I remain committed to passing bipartisan legislation through a clean, up-or-down vote to enact this ban and restore confidence in our government.”
Bera Opposes Supreme Court Decision Allowing Trump Administration to Move Forward with Terminating TPS for Haitians and Syrians “I strongly oppose the Supreme Court’s decision allowing the Trump administration to strip Temporary Protected Status from Haitians and Syrians who fled dangerous conditions, came to the United States legally, follow our laws, and are rebuilding their lives in America. “Forcing law-abiding people back to countries still facing violence, instability, and humanitarian crises is both cruel and dangerous. These individuals sought refuge through legal channels and have become valued members of communities across our country. For many, being returned could amount to a death sentence. “Our nation has a proud legacy of offering refuge to people fleeing oppression, violence, and persecution. Earlier this year, I voted for legislation that passed through the House to extend Temporary Protected Status for Haiti. The Senate must act swiftly to pass that legislation, and Congress must continue working to ensure that people who followed our laws and sought safety through legal channels are not needlessly forced back into harm's way.”

Since Dobbs, abortion bans and restrictions have created significant barriers to reproductive health care and disrupted medical education for students and providers in many states.
