Canadian Geographic is seeking an Indigenous editor to handle a series of stories on Indigenous languages we are developing for a new front-of-book magazine department supported by the Office of the Commissioner of Indigenous Languages. Working as an independent contractor for a minimum six-month term (February-August 2025), the editor will be responsible for assigning text and photography for eight stories themed around various dimensions of Indigenous language preservation and revitalization; to appear in print and online during the contract period. The editor may also be: required to attend occasional meetings with the editorial staff of Can Geo and the Office of the Commissioner of Indigenous Languages. We are looking for a motivated self-starter with previous writing and editing experience, strong writing and editing skills and a passion for great storytelling! This work can be done remotely from anywhere in Canada and pays an hourly rate-of $40/hr; up to a maximum of 60 hours/month.
