The fact that we carry our office around in our pockets further con-tributes to our sense that we are too busy. There is always something we could be doing-checking email, calling colleagues, reviewing docu-ments. This may make us feel that we are "busy" when in fact it is simply the vague sense that we should be working because we could be working. Indeed, there is some evidence that people seek to feel busy because to feel otherwise is to feel we are being irresponsibly unproduc-tive. A review of the research surrounding how we perceive time, pub-lished in 2019 in Current Opinion in Psychology, speculates that people endeavour to work hard not to create free time but to avoid being idle, because being idle means we are not valued.
