An Interior spokesperson said the areas that were inspected Monday were damaged sections of the expansion joints — gaps between slabs in the concrete basin — where the soft top layer of the coating “is easily cut by a box cutter.” There are multiple expansion joints in the pool — one that is located on the perimeter and several that are transverse across the pool. In its analysis, The Post found three failure points that occurred at expansion joints that go across the pool.

“President Donald J. Trump is an expert builder who fixed the Reflecting Pool permanently before deranged people vandalized it,” the spokesperson said.
