The university itself clung to the past, like an ivy-cocooned caterpillar reluctant to change. Coal fires and kerosine lanterns. Dark stone with towering windows, and wild rose gardens so unlike my mother’s orderly plants. This, I worried as my items were unloaded into the first year’s dormitory with beds wrapped around a central coal stove, was perhaps not the sharp, forward-minded place I had hoped to crawl and disappear inside. This is a commissioned piece of art for a trans/gay Frankenstein retelling. Viktor Frankenstein is sewing together his creation with red thread.
