Rogerson’s crimes came to light only because Stanhope sunk so low she wanted to die. She took an overdose and, though Rogerson dialled 999, he raped her unconscious body while waiting for the ambulance. As he was raping her, she came to. Afterwards, Stanhope did manage to end the relationship, but when he threatened to kill himself, she was persuaded to let him sleep on the sofa while he got his life together. Again, she woke to find him raping her. It was then that she went to the police.
