This membrane protrusion is regulated by the polymerzation and depolymerization of filamentous actin. Multiple receptors on the T cell are engaging their ligands on the tumor cell and transmitting biochemical signals into the T cell interior to enhance the interaction between itself and the tumor cell. In addition, the lytic granules (think of them as cell hand grenades) are moved by the microtubule system to contact site between the two cells. The lytic granules then fuse with the plasma membrane releasing the contents and killing the tumor cell.
