So if a basic challenge is "the door is locked", a complication might be "blocked", "stuck", "alarmed", or whatever you can think of that makes the situation more complicated.

Complications can be removed through a similar method: bypass or resolve by doing something risky.
Hey, I have a question about this, and this is a genuine question after reading this thread twice: How is your Complex Challenges system materially different from trad elfgame gameplay? Because "it has X traits which must be dealt with in logically plausible ways" is very trad (and OSR too).
