An orangey-red sun casts a shiny orange sunglade on the relatively calm waters of Lake Erie along the outer beaches of Presque Isle. There’s a slight haze in the sky and a lavender-gray cloud bank below the sun. It’s overall a peaceful scene.

Nothing to see here, folks, just a female Willow Ptarmigan out on a stroll on a beach in front of some sand willows and phragmites. She is molting into her summer plumage but still has a lot of white on her belly and lower breast.

Things our House Wren has chased today: interloper wren, house sparrows sitting on his house, red-bellied woodpecker that got too close to house, crow that was perched high overhead, red squirrel that got too close to house, chipmunk that was nowhere near his house, low flying helicopter overhead... I think it's time to cut his caffeine intake.

Old photo of my parents on their wedding day in 1969. His suit pants are a little long and there’s a bandage on his thumb because he decided to mow the lawn that morning and got a blister. Her dress was scandalously short for his mom, showing her knees, but the aunts her raised her saw nothing wrong with it. They’re wearing giant grins, about to get into an old blue and white van and embark on the first of many adventures together.

Late on New Year’s Eve 2021, we heard a loud thunk outside and when we went to investigate, there was a Canada Goose sitting atop our storage shed, apparently determined to be the first bird we recorded for 2022. His eye is probably not about to fire a laser beam.
