The picture shows a tripod with a LED-lamp producing the right wavelengths for photosynthesis, hanging underneath it. Below the lamp is a transparent chamber sealed to the ground, connected to a trace gas analyzer from the LI-COR brand. This set-up measures CO2 and CH4 concentrations within the chamber, that are emitted/absorbed by the ecosystem which is boosted by the extra 1000 PAR from the lamp.
Higher shrub density impacts soil composition, decreasing the pH and phosphorus availability in soils as well as increasing the soil organic matter and C:N ratio.
