MFS group made several loans in 2019 and 2020 to an investment partnership linked to Rex Ekaireb, who stood trial and was acquitted of financial crime offences in 2018. He had been accused of laundering money for Michael Adams, the brother of the alleged leader of the Clerkenwell Crime Syndicate

Ekaireb, now a 78-year old retired chartered accountant, denied via his lawyer ever being Adams’s accountant. He said the judge in the case also agreed that the member of the notorious Adams family’s allegedly undeclared income comprised gambling winnings that the judge “agreed was not taxable”.
