$Aurora frowned. "You want to talk to me now?" "Always." "That’s not what you said last time." The dim light refracted in her eye like she was a nocturnal creature. She caged Luul with all four of her arms. "Last time?" "Yes. Last time." Aurora’s nails dug into his shoulders and elbows. "Do you know what he’s going to do to me?! Do you know how angry he is?" Tears dribbled down her cheek. "I can’t escape, Luul. Help me." Shadows entwined the halls of Vera Libra. As Luul’s attention returned to Aurora, the grinning face of a wooden wolf stared down at him. "—!" Luul jerked awake. Glass clattered as he sat up and pushed himself away from the counter. A small fortress of bottles enclosed him at his end of the bar. Early on he’d abandoned using glasses. There was no reason to waste time pouring drinks. His pace had only quickened from there. Beyond the glass, the bar was dark and quiet. Long had it been empty, he just wasn’t certain how long. Hours? Days? Years?$
