I was told today by a 17-year-old that there was no way people were writing 10 page papers without AI. Dude, I was writing 10 page papers without having read the book.

Whether it could be called perseverance or just plain, bull-headed stubbornness, at midday she was rewarded. She looked up from her fevered forced march, and saw the road split. A worn wooden signpost rose like a lonely sentinel. Approaching it, she saw perhaps the single most welcome sight in her twenty years of life.
Once the manor was good and far behind them, Rika slipped her brigadine coat on. It fit well enough, especially with the extra padding from her traveling clothes. The bracers were likewise a welcome addition, though she’d have preferred something that would also protect her hands. The sword and shield were the real prizes, in her eyes, though. Without armor, combat would be a risk, but without a weapon? She’d rather not think about that. All things considered, the gear Marin had given her would certainly come in handy once the Soldiers left her to fend for herself.
A second eruption of darkness and blood sprayed out from what had once been the skirmisher’s arm. It fell to the ground, screaming and clutching its stump as blood pumped out through its knobby fingers. Rika pinned its head down to the dirt with one of her hobnailed boots. For a second it thrashed uselessly against the tough leather of her boot, then her pant leg. Her sword pierced its throat and it died with a wet gurgle.
