Declan Patrick McManus aka Elvis Costello

Woodstock '99 was a massive music festival held from July 22 to July 25, 1999, at the former Griffiss Air Force Base in Rome, New York.

Intended to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the legendary 1969 event, the festival is instead remembered for its sweltering heat, extreme commercialisation, riots, and violence. Around 220,000 people attended the event.

Almost immediately, the festival was plagued by severe logistical and environmental problems. Unlike the grassy fields of the original, this festival was held on a decommissioned military base consisting mostly of concrete and tarmac.Temperatures routinely exceeded 100°F (roughly 38°C).

Bottled water was sold for $4, and food prices were aggressively high, which severely angered attendees.

There were far too few portable toilets, causing them to overflow with raw sewage that ultimately contaminated some of the running water on-site.

The lineup largely featured aggressive hard rock and nu-metal acts (such as Limp Bizkit, Korn, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers) that stoked the crowd's energy. By the final night, mounting frustrations boiled over into a full-scale riot. Attendees began setting bonfires with discarded debris, tearing down sound towers, and looting vendor stalls.

The chaos ultimately required the deployment of riot police to disperse the crowd, leaving the site completely charred. The aftermath of the festival was also heavily marred by allegations of sexual assaults and widespread property destruction.

Imagine: a movie so bad, so awful, that it has become a cult classic for many film fans. You might have a few of your own to rattle off, but they're unlikely to be as bad as the comical science fiction film Plan 9 from Outer Space, directed by Ed Wood and released in 1959.

The plot itself is comical: extraterrestrials are hoping to prevent humanity from creating a doomsday device that could destroy the universe. Plan 9 refers to the alien's attempts to resurrect Earth's dead and cause chaos, thereby hoping to make humanity listen to them.

Even for its time, the special effects used in the movie were considered horrendous, and the movie also contained several technical mistakes (including the visibility of the boom microphone in one shot and an actor clearly reading from a script on his lap.) Critics and fans alike have savaged the movie's bad dialogue and plot. Bela Lugosi even appears in the movie despite the fact that his footage was shot for a different movie shortly before he passed away.

Many critics consider the movie 'so bad it's good'. Rotten Tomatoes' consensus says: "The epitome of so-bad-it's-good cinema, Plan 9 from Outer Space is an unintentionally hilarious sci-fi 'thriller' from anti-genius Ed Wood that is justly celebrated for its staggering ineptitude".

Originally erected in 1923 as a billboard for a new residential development, by the 1940s, the then Hollywoodland sign was in disrepair. Donated to the city of Los Angeles in 1944, it was in such a state that the city’s Recreation and Parks Commission wanted it torn down. However, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce and local residents resisted and won the day.

It was decided to tear down the old sign and rebuild it but without the "LAND"at the end. Since then, it has become an emblem for the film industry and the city. In 1973, it was granted status as a historical cultural monument, and it was rebuild once again in 1978 as the world's largest sign.
