By now, I think I know. I have gone through the experience many times—in Germany, in Austria, and in France. I have come to know the types: the born Nazis, the Nazis whom democracy itself has created, the certain-to-be fellow-travelers. And I also know those who never, under any conceivable circumstances, would become Nazis. It is preposterous to think that they are divided by any racial characteristics. Germans may be more susceptible to Nazism than most people, but I doubt it. Jews are barred out, but it is an arbitrary ruling. I know lots of Jews who are born Nazis and many others who would heil Hitler tomorrow morning if given a chance. There are Jews who have repudiated their own ancestors in order to become “Honorary Aryans and Nazis”; there are full-blooded Jews who have enthusiastically entered Hitler’s secret service. Nazism has nothing to do with race and nationality. It appeals to a certain type of mind. It is also, to an immense extent, the disease of a generation—the generation which was either young or unborn at the end of the last war. This is as true of Englishmen, Frenchmen, and Americans as of Germans. It is the disease of the so-called “lost generation.”
RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — A lesser-known Virginia law banning face masks in order to conceal someone’s identity returns next month, prompting Gov. Northam to clarify how it may be enforced with COVID-19 still present. Paused during the pandemic, the law was written with the intent to deter potential criminals from concealing their face and it is set to once again be effective when Virginia’s state of emergency ends June 30. 2021. The law is how a woman faced a felony charge after allegedly wearing a bandana during the January 2020 Second Amendment rally outside the state capitol — the charge was later dropped. Do plexiglass COVID barriers really work, and what will become of them? On the law’s return, Gov. Northam said, “I will communicate with our law enforcement. I think it will be quite clear that nobody will be arrested because of wearing masks, especially for medical reasons.”

It shall be unlawful for any person over 16 years of age to, with the intent to conceal his identity, wear any mask, hood or other device whereby a substantial portion of the face is hidden or covered so as to conceal the identity of the wearer, to be or appear in any public place, or upon any private property in this Commonwealth without first having obtained from the owner or tenant thereof consent to do so in writing. However, the provisions of this section shall not apply to persons (i) wearing traditional holiday costumes; (ii) engaged in professions, trades, employment or other activities and wearing protective masks which are deemed necessary for the physical safety of the wearer or other persons; (iii) engaged in any bona fide theatrical production or masquerade ball; or (iv) wearing a mask, hood or other device for bona fide medical reasons upon (a) the advice of a licensed physician or osteopath and carrying on his person an affidavit from the physician or osteopath specifying the medical necessity for wearing the device and the date on which the wearing of the device will no longer be necessary and providing a brief description of the device, or (b) the declaration of a disaster or state of emergency by the Governor in response to a public health emergency where the emergency declaration expressly waives this section, defines the mask appropriate for the emergency, and provides for the duration of the waiver. Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield said on Thursday it would no longer move forward with the policy change. “There has been significant widespread misinformation about an update to our anesthesia policy. As a result, we have decided to not proceed with this policy change,” the company said in a statement. “To be clear, it never was and never will be the policy of Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield to not pay for medically necessary anesthesia services. The proposed update to the policy was only designed to clarify the appropriateness of anesthesia consistent with well-established clinical guidelines.” Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield insurance representing Connecticut, New York and Missouri had previously said that, starting in February, it would deny any claims for anesthesia services that exceeded specific time limits set for surgeries and procedures.

The most serious complications are injuries and dying from seizures. This section gives frank information about one of the more common causes of dying from seizures called “Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy,” which is abbreviated SUDEP. What Is SUDEP? SUDEP is the sudden, unexpected death of someone with epilepsy, who was otherwise healthy. In SUDEP cases, no other cause of death is found when an autopsy is done. Each year, more than 1 in 1,000 people with epilepsy die from SUDEP. This is the leading cause of death in people with uncontrolled seizures. The person with epilepsy is often found dead in bed and doesn't appear to have had a convulsive seizure. Over one-third of the time, there is a witnessed seizure or signs of a recent seizure close to the time of death. They are often found lying face down. No one is sure about the cause of death in SUDEP and it may differ between cases. Some researchers think that a seizure causes an irregular heart rhythm. Other research has shown that breathing difficulties following a seizure lead to death.

The witness said someone tried to rip a flag out of the neo-Nazis hands, and a fight ensued. Her account of events matched what the neo-Nazis had told police, officers said in the footage, so they released the man armed with a knife from the backseat of the cruiser and told the neo-Nazis they were free to go. A police report identified the group as "Hate Club 1844." The driver is the only neo-Nazi named in the report. The others are identified only as about 10-11 unknown white men. “We do this all over the U.S., and we’ve never been attacked like this, man,” the driver told police from his seat in the U-Haul.

Instead, if you were to ask me how else I might persevere, how else I plan to remain resolute for the fight, and all that, then I have one additional sense of why I will keep going, personally: Because doing so annoys the shit out of anyone who wants me to stop. Lots of amazing sources can ramp up the optimism and the hope, but I’m here today to tell you to survive, to push back, to continue to exist as you for one very small reason. That reason is pure pettiness. Be petty. Be the most petty, obstinate, stubborn little (or big!) queer you can possibly be, and keep going because you and I both know they will absolutely hate it.
