My day-job project is almost at launch date, so I have less time for solo-deving. Just played a couple of levels of my Snake in the Dark after a break from development and I'm second-guessing my color choices. I feel like the game could use more color and clarity. WDYT? #indiedev #indiegame

I feel like dark abckdrops always bring a great opportunity for colourful props on top. I'm thinking glowing pickups / edibles in all colours of the rainbow. For added clarify, might already be enough to just add a hint of outlines / edges to the wall tiles. To keep the tone and such

I mean it’s always a matter of personal taste right. I like colorful games. But I don’t think I’m in the majority. Then again, I might be in the majority among your target audience! That’s harder to say hmm..

Well, you can provide this as an option where user/player can pick a preset theme. And/or also be able to further modify the individual colors if they wish. That ofc means more dev side effort. The themes can be around weather, terrains, cities and what not.

The level could be a darker purple while you still light up the player with brighter purple.
