Centuries ago, they invented the concept of "insurable interest". So now we can take out life insurance only for our families or close associates. Before then there were gambling markets on the deaths of famous people. And that seemed to worry the famous people, understandably enough. So it stopped. Back in 1947, if people could have gambled against integration, there would then have been an incentive for them to undermine it by any means available. At the moment there's an incentive for us all to make the world better. If the gambling markets create a counter-incentive, then that's a big problem.
Ryan Fiala Middle class baseball parent here. Just committed to paying a few G’s so my high school freshman can play in six tournaments for a travel team after his school season ends next year. And he was lucky to make this team, having a natural pitcher’s build and free and easy mechanics. If he didn’t? Sorry, kid. Pretty much no more baseball for you - unless you want to wait 15 years and join my senior league once you hit 30. I just want him to enjoy baseball for as long as he can; I’m not so naive as to think it will pay off with a college scholarship. Spence in Austin As the parent of a kid that was physically a late bloomer and crashed out of the baseball youth league track early, never to have a viable path back in, I’m so turned off by the youth sports industrial complex that I can’t get into college baseball. To me, it’s just the final stop on the whole exploitive bullshit line of youth baseball. Steve Straehley This is pretty much what happened with my son. Late bloomer, plus we weren't going to be able to do travel ball because I worked weekends.

Instructions on IRS Form 1040-ES concerning the new "Trump account" Trump account and new Form 4547. Recent legislation allows parents, guardians, and other authorized individuals to elect to establish a new type of individual retirement account, called a Trump account, for the exclusive benefit of certain children. If the child was born after 2024 and before 2029, is a U.S. citizen, and meets certain other requirements, the authorized individual may also elect to receive a $1,000 pilot program contribution to the child’s Trump account. Both elections can be made on Form 4547, which can be filed at the same time as the authorized individual’s 2026 income tax return.
