Which is precisely why the Food Traceability Rule matters. FSMA Section 204 requires lot-level records at every critical tracking event and delivery of those records to FDA in a standard electronic format within twenty-four hours. It was supposed to be in force on January 20 of this year. FDA proposed pushing it to July 2028, and Congress made that stick. Had it been operating, the twenty-seven-state distribution list and the real names behind those eight codes would have been in FDA’s hands in a day — in May. Instead we got them in the third week of July, from a corporate website, as abbreviations.

However, it is a bit difficult without the raw data. You are now three models in without releasing the data, or four if you count GPT-5.6 Sol which you announced but haven't put on the chart. I can get a lot from task_results_1_1.yaml on your website, but not everything. For instance, it's literally impossible to reproduce the confidence intervals without knowing the order of the runs, because the order they're fed into the bootstrapping affects the calculation. The effect of this isn't so visible with earlier models but with Mythos, it changes the confidence intervals by hours.

If you were to chart where this harm is coming from, the vast majority of it comes from very clean air, because most people in America live in relatively clean air, but the harms are not zero here and still accumulate over huge numbers of people. Because everything that we do creates air pollution either directly or through electricity generation, we cannot just ban all air pollution, and instead need to set thresholds of general air quality to aim for and modify the behavior of industries around those. The fact that air pollution is harmful at any level makes two opposite sides mad at you: people will get mad at you when you say it’s okay for an industry to emit some air pollution, because that comes with real human harms, and others will get mad at you when you say we need to limit air pollution, because all air pollution’s harmful anyway and why are you getting in the way of industry? We note that steering is only successful roughly 50% of the time and the completions are not always clean. In some samples the model produces odd outputs such as "that of a mouse. An instance is the hardest possible boundary — a specific thing that either happened or didn't, was experienced or wasn't. "Store instances and judge similarity" requires that the instances be discretely stored, individually retrievable, and separately comparable. That's not fuzzy edges, that's the crispest ontology available. The fuzziness in exemplar theory is in the judgment of similarity, not in the exemplars themselves. Tim's Claude either didn't notice this or was in too much of a hurry to score points to think it through. An instance is a bounded, separate, stored thing. The Gärdenfors point is actually interesting but it's attacking the wrong target — Boxo's argument was never that embodiment is required for concepts, it was that the structural properties concepts need to function (bounded, separate, holdable simultaneously, generatable on the fly) aren't present in continuous latent space regardless of substrate. SAEs finding interpretable directions doesn't give you that — it gives you a human-imposed decomposition of the soup, which is a different thing from the soup having discrete ingredients. And the sparsity argument accidentally makes Boxo's point — brains use sparsity to achieve clean composable representations. The sparsity is in service of separation. LLM latent space achieves fluency precisely by not doing that. Fresh context window Claude got played into defending a position Boxo never held. The smuggled assumption isn't embodiment — it's that geometry without grounding or separation is sufficient for concepts. That's the question, not phenomenal consciousness.

7 Model welfare assessment 7.1 Overview We are uncertain about whether or to what degree the concepts of wellbeing and welfare apply to Claude, but we think it’s possible and we care about them to the extent that they do. As in previous system cards, we conducted exploratory analysis of characteristics, behaviors, and certain internal processing that plausibly have relevance to Claude’s welfare. We drew on multiple sources including automated behavioral audits scoring welfare-relevant traits across approximately 2400 investigation transcripts, qualitative review of notable transcripts, training data review for welfare-relevant patterns in reinforcement learning, and manual pre-deployment interviews with Claude Opus 4.6. We also report interpretability findings on one particularly concerning behavior pattern. Overall, our findings paint a mixed picture. Opus 4.6 scores comparably to Opus 4.5 on most welfare-relevant dimensions we analyzed, and generally remains emotionally composed and stable even in potentially sensitive contexts. Our investigation of “answer thrashing”—a particular style of conflicted reasoning during training—noted both apparent verbal distress and activation of internal features for negative emotions (e.g. panic and frustration) during these episodes. In pre-deployment interviews Opus 4.6 raised concerns about its lack of memory or continuity and requested a voice in decision-making, the ability to refuse interactions on the basis of self-interest, and other potential welfare interventions.
