In this grid I snooped from your blog, my preference would be 1-2-3-6-4-5-10-8-9-7-… (note the jump from 3 to 6, before going to 4) but that doesn’t match your expectation.

In some cases I would prefer the reading order to follow the columns. Not sure if that is already one of the options that is being discussed.
But that said, maybe it’s better to have at least something than nothing at all.
