Deputy My name is Brían O'Byrne. I am a member of your constituency living in Clondalkin. As you are no doubt aware the president of the USA is continuing to escalate a war of aggression against the people of Iran. Most recently he has explicitly described this campaign using the language of genocide. In his own words: "A whole civilization will die tonight." This is a line that must not be crossed, and it is a line that I believe the Irish people need to draw very clearly. It is time to impose formal economic sanctions on Donald Trump and on other members of his administration including at least the Secretary of War. I understand that this is politically and economically a difficult decision to make, given the immense power this person has and the potential for retaliation from him and from individuals or businesses who may be sympathetic to his aims. Notwithstanding the damage that may be caused to the Irish economy I believe we must make the strongest possible objection to this declaration of genocide, including imposing economic sanctions on Donald Trump and other individuals who are prosecuting this war.
