Today’s trillion-dollar ‘superstar’ firms were mostly founded in the US, not the EU or UK. Many of these emerged in the last fifty years and took on incumbents, driving technological progress. Meanwhile, the EU and UK have spent their energy regulating and blocking larger firms.

But at what point is caution and conservatism cultural rather than political? NIMBYism threads the fabric of our country, and idealistic universal consensus (one person can block a development) permeates through our land/sea and innovation hubs. Just a feeling though.
