Something I don't quite get with recent compilation re-releases is the inconsistency of using the original box artwork. Like there's some which retains the original packaging but others that have to scrub logos and other text. What's up with that?

me too. I hate when it says "released on a certain 8 bit system" like dude we know it's the NES.
There's some collections that manage to not only get away with using the original packaging without modification and in some instances even the games can go unmodified. Usually text like "Licensed by Nintendo of America" is removed but some re-releases keep em despite being multi-platform.
