"If we treated physics the way we treat music, perhaps there would be no barrier to entry there as well. My perspective as an educator is that we've created those barriers by siloing off the technical knowledge you need to do physics from the concepts of physics, which are actually quite accessible, quite experiential, and potentially ideas that kids have in their experiences in the world that they could bring in. But we have said as educators, 'Oh no, no, no, you can't possibly do that until you learn A, B, C, and D.' So, my 'yes, and' to that would be: what if we treated some of these other disciplines in the way we treat good music education, which is 'bring what you've got into the space, and together we will co-construct what it means to make and do physics.' So... my soapbox about that."
If 2020’s per-pupil funding of $7,048 had been indexed to inflation, state aid for FY26 would be $8,667 — a 23% increase over six years. If the total state aid amount for FY24 had included the amount given to private schools that year, and FY25 increased from there by 2% _plus_ the amount given to private schools that year, legislative negotiations for FY26 would have started from a level of $8,493 per pupil.
