In all, the budget would cut more than 1,400 positions from the ATF, mostly inspectors, special agents, and support staff. The DEA, which would supposedly take over the ATF, is also facing a 4.4 percent budget cut.

Aside from the ATF, the budget request would zero-out gun violence prevention funding by cutting $50 million from the Community Based Violence Intervention and Prevention Initiative. That's on top of the more than $160 million in grants the department terminated with little notice in April.
