maya dangles from a vine in a panic, kicking and flailing over a pack of hooting sea monkeys swimming in a dirty brown river deep in a wild jungle. she’s screaming “PICK UP” over and over into an antiquated mobile phone trying desperately to reach doc. in an inset panel, a kitchen wall phone rings off the hook, but doc is too busy perfecting his homemade muffins. “they all want my recipe” he muses to himself. the scene is revealed to be a psa from the society for imperiled roommates, asking the viewer “WHEN MERMAID CALLS, WILL YOU ANSWER?”

QB has his own little pumpkin bucket filled with metal robot candy. the pillowcase is ripped and candy is falling out because i always have to have them suffer in some small way.
