Cabel Sasser @cabel.panic.com · Jun 21 traveling with the family and trying the UniFi Travel Router! it logs into hotel wifi (even captive portals) and creates a new wifi network, with the same name as ours at home. it also sets up a vpn to our home network. result: everyone's devices hopped on wifi, with zero setup! (and i get my NAS)

Captive portals, like it gets around paid hotel wifi? That seems like a dangerous device somehow

oooh this thing looks neat, I hope they make a variant with builtin 5G eventually, haven't been happy with much of the travel routers I saw along those lines
I just got back from the beach. We stayed at a friend’s house. She doesnt rent it and hardly uses it so she doesnt pay for internet or trash service. My daughter’s ISP xfinity, has a public wifi there. Logged into it via gl.inet travel router and so all 8 of us had 40gb wifi service.
Been using mine for a few months now. Even streamed video off my home NAS to my iPhone connected to the hotel TV. Going on a cruise soon so we’ll see how that goes.

How does the VPN to the home network part work? I imagine it needs your home network to be set up with one of their routers.

And you can connect the G6 Instant camera to it (WiFi or USB tether) to record video on motion detection while you’re out of your lodgings. Stores on SD card and/or to your home NVR
How are the speeds? I've tried something similar but it was so slow as to be unusuable.
