This concrete poem depicts an American flag waving behind a fighter jet, flying over a sunset reflected on the Persian Gulf. The text of the poem explores the experience of a sea passage through the Strait of Hormuz in 2007. It’s written from the perspective of a young enlisted sailor who reads and writes fictions and poetry in their rack between shifts.
