A white-tailed deer fawn foraging on the forest floor. It is seen in a clearing among about a half a dozen trees and a downed log right behind it. The fawn is bent over with its face down by the grass. The deer is a light brown with white spots throughout its coat and has a white tail.
A great golden digger wasp among some leaves. The leaves are under the wasp and also curving around it from above. The wasp has large dark eyes and head, with a little bit of gold on the side of its head and on a carve around its dark thorax. The body and legs are reddish-orange and the tail. The wings are black and folded above its back.

A California scrub jay on the ground. It is facing left and is in the light between two shadows. It has something in its black beak. There is a white streak above its black eye and a white throat. Under the eye the face is black. The top of its head and the nape are blue while the back and breast are black or a dark grey. The wings and long tail are also blue.

Reddish-brown stag beetle on a stick. The photo is blurry as the lighting wasn't the best. The beetle is reddish-brown throughout as its name suggests. It has large, curved pincers and its antennae are spread to the side of its head.

A dark fishing spider inside a box. It is in the bottom right corner. Its two front legs are reaching up and touching a screw inside the box. The legs alternate between a tan and dark brown and are spread out in all directions. The body is also brown and tan.
The Lower Falls and Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone. The top of the photo is clouds and just under them are treetops. Near the top of the photo in the center is the Lower Falls, the highest waterfall at Yellowstone National Park. It drops over 300 feet and there appears to be mist at the bottom of the falls. The Yellowstone River continues from there through a very deep canyon with rock faces and trees on both sides. It curves through the center of the photo all the way to the bottom.
A red-headed woodpecker high up in a tree. It is resting on a long branch extending out to the left. It has its back turned toward the camera but it is facing right. The bird has a brilliant red head. The nape and upper body are jet black, as is the tail. Between those is a band of white. The belly is also white.

The abdomen is also red, but with black triangles at the end of each segment. The wings are translucent and are held out to the sides.

It is mostly tan with a long diagonal brown streak.and two large and two small brown spots, as well as some lighter wavy lines. The head appears to be very small and white.

A Baltimore oriole on a small limb of a think tree. its breast is facing the camera, but its head is turned. The bird is a brilliant orange with a black head. It also has black wings with white bars. The tail is long.
A tulip tree silk moth clinging to a wall. It is facing up and has its wings closed. one of the wings is only half visible. Nearer the body the wings are dark brown on both. The front wing has a vertical white line in the brown. Toward the back the wings are a whitish grey, which turns into grey and then near the tip a number of squiggly lines at the edge. The body is also dark brown with a white stripe along the abdomen. The antennae are feathery sense organs.
A grapevine beetle on a screen door. It is at the top of the photo, facing up. The wings and thorax look like a smooth-grained wood. it is a light brown with four dark grown spots on each side. The head, which is almost out of the photo, and feet are black.
A giant mayfly in a wall. It is facing up. The mayfly's antennae are medium-sized and alternately white and black. Its wings are folded above and are clear, but with yellowish green along the edge of the forewing and a spot of the same color at the tip of the hindwing. The body and head are also yellow green with black marks all along the side and a black line behind the eye. It has a very long tail which tapers at the end
A graylag goose in the water. It is facing left. The goose is large, with a long neck. Its head and neck are gray with some brown barring. The bill is bright orange with a light tip at the end. The lower part of the wings are brown with thin white stripes going across. It's tail is pure white.
About 20 white pelicans gathered around a tiny island in the river. There is some shrubbery going across, taller to the left and shorter to the right. There is an triangular orange sign and a white one that reads, 486.3 planted in the middle of the taller shrubbery. The pelicans cover the entire front of the island land a little bit of the back, mostly gathered to the right. They all have white feathers with a dark spot on the top of the head. The long bill and legs are orange.

It has a black eye and black beak. The tail is sticking out behind it The legs, which are clinging to the metal bar, are pink.

Camel cricket next to a harvestman. The cricket is very large, Its back legs stretch out farther than the length of its body. The body is a light grey with brown stripes all the way down. The antennae are as long as the legs and stretch out in front of the cricket.
A question mark butterfly on a leaf. It is facing right. The butterfly's wings are closed. The underside of the wings are mostly light brown or a light orange. They are so light that the dark markings of the other side of the wings shows through as light brown spots. They have clear veining and near the button are two white spots that together form a possible question mark, which gives it its name.
A hooded merganser swimming She is moving left to right. The body is grey and brown. From the neck above it is reddish-brown with a nice crest. There is a white spot beneath the black eye. The bill is long and hooked at the end.
Least skipper on what looks like a blade of grass or a long thin leaf of a plant. The skipper is in the middle, looking up. It has its wings partially open. There is brown around the edges of the outer wing and orange spots in the middle. The other wings are also orange and brown. The body is light brown with a dark brown spot in the middle near its brown head.

It is mostly a light yellow with some white and grey or black markings along the upper edge of the wing. Its wings are folded above the butterfly.

Toward the outer edge on the left and right are tan markings with a small dark brown circle on the outside, a light brown circle next, and a dark brown spot in the middle. Toward the bottom are two large and two small circles--dark brown on the outside, tan on the next ring, and a brown spot in the middle. The two larger ones have a bit of orange at the top of the spots. Below the circles are orange horizontal lines. Under that are brown, tan, and brown lines, with white lining the edge. The antennae are white, dark at the end, with white tips.
A Roesel's bush-cricket on a leaf. The leaf has pointed edges and the bush-cricket is facing left. it is mostly brown with a white line from its head to the end of the abdomen along its side. There are also two brown lines extending the same length with a thin white line between them in the middle of its body and a white crescent at the bottom of the thorax. Its front and middle legs are spread out. The back legs which are thicker toward the body extend upwards, then back down in a V formation. It has very long antennae.
A European stonechat rests atop a small branch coming out of the top of a plant. It is facing right and the background is sky blue. Its breast has a reddish-orange color throughout. The feathers and the top of the head are brown with a light patch just below the short black beak and another at the nape. The tail is fairly short and has a white spot on it.
A song thrush on the grass amid a profusion of white wildflowers. The bird is facing left. Its feathers are brown and its head is a light brown. It has a black eye with a white eye ring and a short, dark beak. The underside is white, streaked with brown. The tail is short and also brown.

A beadlet anemone clinging to a rock. Out of water like this the anemone looks like a reddish-purple blob. When it gets covered again by water its retracted tentacles come out again. To the left and right of the anemone are limpets.
