They're an appealing proposition: totally self-contained, one-button operation, JPEGs save to an SD card. Unfortunately, they're a complete waste of time. Samples in thread👇

Here's the same slide scanned with a Nikon Coolscan and the Magnasonic above. Hard to get a sense for the Nikon's much higher resolution here, but the shadow and colour detail on the Magnasonic is abysmal.
if you've ever used something like a plustek or pacific image scanner, you know how long it takes. instant operation should be suspicious.
