1. Reining in a Broken Campaign Finance System Our political system must not be dominated by wealthy special interests who, by virtue of immense wealth, can purchase the compliance of elected officials and drown out the voices of everyday voters. This distortion inevitably produces a government that is less responsive to the will and wishes of the majority.
Post-Shelby Impact After the Supreme Court gutted the Voting Rights Act, a flurry of anti-voter laws and legislative maps were enacted to intentionally discriminate against Black voters and other voters of color.
March 7, 1965: Bloody Sunday Over 600 civil rights advocates in Selma, Alabama were violently attacked by state troopers as they peacefully marched across the Edmund Pettus Bridge to demand voting rights for Black Americans. Their courageous advocacy galvanized widespread support for the Voting Rights Act.
