Europe's leading NGO coalition fighting dangerous climate change!

Last night’s vote was historic - the UN system now also recognises that states have a legal obligation to align climate action with the best available science, in order to meet the goals of the Paris Agreement. This process began with Pacific Island students and frontline communities demanding climate justice and accountability. Their initiative has now shaped a global legal and political moment. With all EU Member States (except Czechia), and other European countries (including UK, Switzerland, Norway and Ukraine) supporting the UN resolution - there is now an even stronger mandate on our continent for courts to hold major polluters, and laggard policy makers, to account. Today’s vote reinforces expectations that governments align climate action with science and international law.
For the EU's own credibility, there is no other option than supporting the UN resolution that follows up on the International Court of Justice's Advisory Opinion on Climate, that governments will vote on tomorrow. The ICJ reaffirmed the legal imperative for governments to align their actions with the 1.5°C temperature goal and to prevent harm from fossil fuel production and consumption - and this resolution provides clarity for courts, communities and policymakers worldwide
