Such a light topic, I know. What qualifications do I have? I have been an activist for ten years. I campaigned for Bernie Sanders in 2016, and “voted blue no matter who”. I was my precinct chair for the democratic party and later my county’s secretary and treasurer during the first Trump admin. I have helped volunteer in my community in art with theater, to combat domestic violence, to help homeless people get their tents replaced after the BLM protests in 2020 where police were tearing them down and destroying them. I grew up in rural Colorado, where my family attended a very conservative church. I’ll talk about the role of Evangelism in all this later but suffice it to say I don’t really speak to most of my bio family at this point in my life. I am a transgender woman. I started HRT and my transition right after Trump won the first time, because I knew we only had so much time. That I wouldn’t be able to put it off to a later time in my life. I think that is probably true for a lot of trans folks if they are honest with themselves. We could have explored things more slowly but we felt pressured. But I am not a monolith, and the situation is absolutely compounded and complicated. The legalization of gay marriage, and the slow loosening of regulations that made it difficult to *be* trans in the first place meant that many people were experiencing opportunities they never had before.
