It‘s easy to see how the deficiencies of this top led to the R129, IMO the greatest convertible ever made. Obviously much more complex than a Miata but they thought of everything

Speaking of deficiencies, my favorite genre of videos are “I can put the top down in my 718 Spyder in under 2 minutes by myself,” as though this is an accomplishment Meanwhile the normal 718 does it in a few seconds at anything up to 29 mph
Oh easily, the R129 is one button and you’re done. It is even semi-user serviceable, so they say. But yeah this is the best example of a single-model year technological progress from ‘89 to ‘90. (Sorry this got buried in my notifications!)
