R107 is quirky but it’s precise & pretty easy — I have a pic of the lever tools you describe stowed in glove comprtmt. It‘s easy to see how the deficiencies of this top led to the R129, IMO the greatest convertible ever made. Obviously much more complex than a Miata but they thought of everything

Speaking of deficiencies, my favorite genre of videos are “I can put the top down in my 718 Spyder in under 2 minutes by myself,” as though this is an accomplishment Meanwhile the normal 718 does it in a few seconds at anything up to 29 mph

Oh easily, the R129 is one button and you’re done. It is even semi-user serviceable, so they say. But yeah this is the best example of a single-model year technological progress from ‘89 to ‘90. (Sorry this got buried in my notifications!)
