And I don't think they're very clear about the sheer scale of production they're talking about. Like, last week we had Anthropic saying they wanted to build 20GW of datacenter capacity in Australia. I did some back-of- the-envelope maths, and 20GW is ONE NEW SOUTH WALES OF ELECTRICITY. (peak Summer grid load here is 16GW, but there's rooftop solar on top of that so...) Even if we can casually add that much to the grid, 100% renewably, in the timeframe the Al boosters want, we have other things we need that for, like replacing all the current generation, transport, etc. that is burning fossil fuels, so our children don't end up living out the plot of Mad Max. The idea that getting some React app written faster should be first cab off the rank for this stuff is _criminal_. Al already has every tech company shredding its carbon commitments, or just actively poisoning entire poor neighbourhoods with "temporary" generators.
