What do you think of the idea of skipping the initial stage of memorising rules and instead moving straight on to applying them using ‘orienting charts’ as described by Talyzina and Galperin – or ‘systematic approaches to problem solving’ (SAPs), as van Merriënboer and Kirschner call them?
