Tumblr post from username izumida-sayuri-the-2st (59 minutes ago): azami should go through "best makeup" nominations for shows/movies and start watching star trek deep space nine. as far as i know a3 hasn't done a MAIN TROUPE play that's gone full in on aliens, and star trek as a franchise was by all accounts one of the pioneers* of sci-fi makeup and prosthetics. you have the simple ones like the pointed ears of the vulcans/romulans, the rugged noses of the bajorans, the patches of spots on the trills, against more complex ones like the face and neck scales of the cardassians, and the rugged forehead shapes of the klingons (which are for the most part unique to each character), and then you have the FERENGI, fullbody orange skin, sharp jagged teeth, giant ears, and absolutely bulbous heads

(ASTERISK: in the western world (japan had been doing toku since the 50's), from a long enough time ago (before star wars), one of the most prolific examples (alongside star wars), who did it "profesionally"/with a hollywood budget)

it also helps that early star trek pulled actors who very consistently had previous experience working in theater productions, particularly shakesperian theater. earlier stuff is a bit Jank and "unrealistic" in terms of special effects/action but stuff like that doesn't really matter because star trek is at its core about social issues. the action is very "stage fighting" and not "movie fighting" due to the limited sets they had/prior experience of the actors involved so it's very easy to replicate

hi i know the answer to this Its because toby based seth on. an existing character named seth from illusion of gaia. this original seth's name in japanese was Morris. so he kept that discrepancy to keep reference in both languages
