Sliding in here having driven my plug in hybrid for over a decade, there are two types of "regular" plugs. 20 amp plugs are more rare, most are 15. More amps mean faster charging. Even 15 will get you good range from overnight charging, in addition to wherever you can plug in on the go.

If you have a garage with an electric dryer, than can do 30 amps! A smart box like this can charge your car, then automatically stop charging when you need to run the dryer. This is what I do in our rental house. splitvolt.com/products/spl...
