How it started: Yeah I can probably open it and replace the dead battery without destroying the case too much. How it went: WHY would they GLUE the METAL LID down ON TOP OF THE SCREWS??? Turns out the charging circuit was probably cooking the battery anyway.

Battery removed. It'll still power up and connect to Bluetooth to play music! So long as you don't raise the volume too high anyway, it'll brown itself out and get unhappy. It'll probably still end up in the ewaste bin, I use headphones for most stuff these days anyway.
