However, I understand that the NEH will be implementing some recent Executive Orders and thus limiting the kinds of research that can be funded, including prohibiting funding those projects which relate to gender, diversity, equity, inclusion, accessibility, or environmental justice. I'm afraid that I cannot participate as a reviewer under these constraints, which I find to be antithetical to both academic freedom and historical praxis. I hope that I will be able to serve in the future, when these restrictions are no longer inhibiting the mission of the NEH and the scholarship it supports.
