Legally complex argument to be made on both sides. But most importantly: A bad time to do this. I know it's frustrating to hear the "now's not a good time" argument, but we currently have the rise of neo-Fascism underway in the US. Pissing off the liberal 2A crowd alienates a voting block, limiting legal firearm options impedes home and community defense in a worst case scenario, and it's kerosene for right wing media to keep people in the captured media space fearful of the DEMONCRAPS COMIN 2 STEAL UR GUNZ. I'm a gun owner. I enjoy marksmanship. And for years I've said that if we had an Australia-style buyback, I would turn mine in. Gun violence is an epidemic in this country. But the cliche "we shouldn't have weapons of war on the streets of America" rings hollow in the face of police forces kitted out like they're in Fallujah and an administration that sure seems to be signaling they're cool with one-man rule if things don't go their way at the ballot box. So right now, and with what I fear may be coming in 2028, I think it's a bad move to take away legal options to purchase self and community defense. I agree with the intent morally, and I want national catharsis on this topic to stop gun violence, but the kind of constitutional conversation this requires right now is not possible with the bad faith actors we have in control of the right.

The espanso restart solution from GitHub was the right answer all along since it uses espanso's own built-in mechanism. Sorry again for the chaos it caused!
