a short poem in free verse, rendered on a background of an apple on a cutting board. the apple has been mostly peeled; the peel lays loose on the cutting board encircling the apple, in the vague shape of a heart. there is a simple paring knife to the side. the poem reads as follows: blade to flesh makes you blush in reverse red flush slips from pale skin leaving sharp partings but you don't bleed only sweat and sweet nectar release my fist wet i peel back the core of you juice pooling in my palm and i lick myself unclean thinking this is still life i wash my hands of the fruit but the desire remains
