A Traffic Safety in Brighton Park fact sheet, see link for full text, but highlgihts include "TRAFFIC SAFETY IS A LONGSTANDING CONCERN IN BRIGHTON PARK 80% of Brighton Park residents said they experience dangerous driving when getting around the neighborhood. 2 out of 3 said dangerous driving and a lack of safe walking and biking infrastructure is their biggest barrier to getting around." "VULNERABLE USERS ARE DISPROPORTIONATELY INJURED AND KILLED IN CRASHES People walking make up only 2% of total crashes in Brighton Park, but represent 11% of injuries and 50% of fatalities. PEOPLE FROM OUTSIDE OF BRIGHTON PARK ARE CAUSING CRASHES 70% of drivers that cause a crash in Brighton Park live outside of the neighborhood. Over half of drivers who hit someone walking or biking don’t live on the Southwest Side." "SEPARATING MODES IMPROVES SAFETY FOR EVERYONE After installation safety improvements on Clark St, we observed a 75% reduction in vehicles traveling over 30 MPH. On Milwaukee Ave, injury crashes were cut in half after safety improvements were added. On Broadway, safety improvements led to a 73% reduction in people riding bikes on the sidewalk."
