On a 192GB VM and with 1GB of ram per user, that's ~190 simultaneous sessions w/ no buffer! I think this kind of approach only works because: - sessions offer very little resources - sessions are ephemeral and don't last long

Yeah that makes sense. Is 1GB enough for most folks? I remember you used to either get 2GB or 8GB of RAM in the Binder lottery, so I was working with those numbers in my napkin calculations.
The total launches in a day is around 6000. If you have 150 simultaneous users at any moment, and 7000 sessions a day, then that's 40 "buckets of users". If each session takes equal time, that's 60*24/46 = ~36 minutes per session. Which feels reasonable! archive.analytics.mybinder.org
