So maybe McConnell DID die and they want to avoid Beshear’s replacement.
Here's how it works: When the House is closed, the clock stops. Bills can't move forward, and lawmakers can't force a vote. A new rule this year lets the Speaker shut things down and decide when everyone comes back. He chooses the date. No vote needed.
