Photos from last night at Lick Observatory! ðŸ”🧪 The first is of the laser shooting out from the dome of the 3-meter Shane Telescope. It creates the artificial guide star for the adaptive optics instrument. The second is of the open dome of the Shane Telescope 🤩

The laser beam is at a wavelength meant to excite sodium ions in the upper atmosphere in order to create the artificial guide star, hence its yellow color.
