In high school, I would cheat on math tests by writing programs in my TI-85 calculator to solve problems for me. Ironically, in the process of writing the programs I would learn the material well enough that I didn't even need to cheat anymore.

I never learned how to do matrix algebra. But I learned how to enter matrix data into my TI-58 and it knew how to do the calculations.

I made like $20 off my TI-85 blackjack game in HS. It had real arrays of cards! Not random! And the gotos. So many gotos.
