In response to somebody paraphrasing Vance saying that it's totally reasonable to not want neighbors who speak another language, Vance: First of all, it's just a made up quote. Completely dishonest. Second, what's reasonable is to want to share a language with your neighbor. How do you borrow a cup of sugar? Resolve disagreements? Have a nice conversation? Cody replied with a link to the Justice Department with screenshots clearly showing that under ITAR, "U.S. persons" includes asylum seekers and refugees (or "whatever"). It also includes ways in which companies can avoid the unlawful discrimination that SpaceX engaged in. Admittedly, Cody also included "shut up" in his response, which was maybe not helpful at the time. Cody shared a screenshot from the Justice Department explaining that under the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and the Export Administration Regulations (EAR), "U.S. persons" are allowed to work for U.S. companies that involve export-controlled items. The screenshot includes a helpful list of who is included under the term "U.S. Persons": U.S. citizens, U.S. nationals, lawful permanent residents, workers granted refugee status, and workers granted asylum. Cody shared another screenshot explaining how employers can avoid unlawful discrimination when filling jobs that involve access to export-controlled items. Basically it says don't limit hiring based on citizenship status or immigration status, because ITAR and EAR don't contain employment or hiring requirements. Unfortunately, the screenshot contains the phrase "unless required by a law, regulation, government contract, or executive order". More on that in a moment.
