A snapping turtle who just laid eggs in our lawn heading off after a job well done. The turtle isn’t a very big one, her shell only about 10” long. The lawn looks vast in comparison, and she has a way to go before she can take a dip in a small pond in the distance. Beyond are trees, a wall, and a glimpse of road, which I hope she avoids because people can be jerks about snapping turtles. I LOVE snapping turtles. From afar. Because they definitely will bite you if you mess with them.

Also there are metal buckets with lids that we keep bird and dog food in. The walls are white, the floor is honey-colored old wide pine. The amazing thing is the burst of rays of light on the floor, reflected off one of the metal buckets. Like an exploding star. Gorgeous when the sun comes back this time of year.
Looking down at a glorious, in full bloom Bowl of Beauty peony. So-called because a single overlapping row of brilliant fuschia silky petals surrounds a center of much thinner gold and fuschia petals that look like stamens but aren’t - like a big pink bowl filled with golden pasta. The flower is probably 8 inches across, surrounded by green foliage and a few other unopened buds. All are spangled with beads of water, as if it has just rained.
The head of a gray pitbull puppy named Tuuli from above. She was sitting with me on a green chair in my bedroom. A little of the denim in my jeans is visible as well as the wooden floor below. But the main point of the photo is to document Tuuli’s magnificent head wrinkles. They swoop in velvety u-shapes, both to the right and the left around her ears and down toward her white muzzle and black nose - 5 or 6 swoops on each side. She looks very worried! Her fur is an unusual shade -gray with tawny undertones so she color-shifts depending on the light. In this shot, she looks almost brown. I love her SO much. Pitbulls are the best, and I have had lots of different dogs. But I am willing to hear arguments for why other dogs are the best. I will just never agree.
Many starry-shaped dahlias in shades of pink, coral, red and yellow growing in my garden. Behind are my greenhouse, my brick house and a wooden shed. The sky is blue and filled with puffy clouds and there are trees in the distance. It was a lovely, warm, happy day. It soothes me no end to look at this photo. I’m sad and angry because so many assholes are coming for my trans children.

Anyway, these are zinnias, feather celosia, butterfly snapdragons, and dahlias, all in shades of coral, pink, butter yellow, and peach. Behind them is an ochre colored table and there’s a little bit of basket in the upper left corner.
