Introduction: Believe me, there are few things more embarrassing than having to write the introduction to one's own book. Not for me the dubious pleasure of an endorsement from Stephen King or Clive Barker. Not for me the glowing praise of my peers as they lie through gritted teeth and wait for the check to arrive by Federal Express. Not for me the detailed analyses of technique, the backslapping bonhomie, the hushed reverential tones. Instead, I'm forced to take the stand and conduct my own defense. So what do I say? "Animal Man was a fundamental milestone in the ongoing development of graphic narrative and I consider myself lucky, nay, privileged, nay, blessed to have known Grant Morrison at this pivotal moment in his glittering career..." All too true, but comics readers value modesty and humility above all, so perhaps I'd do better to stick with world-weartn self deprecating cynicism. "Animal Man? No big deal. It paid the rent, I suppose." Hmm, I could have a point there, but it still doesn't tell the full story. Better just to stick to the "facts".
It's the Dupondt brothers! Uniformed guards escort the two men in traditional Greek attire into an office. Tintin is surprised to see them here. Not so much Snowy that smartly points out: "That's it! ...Sensational entrance by the Dupondt brothers!..."

The setting: a stadium-sized office. The main protagonist: Gregory Gideon, ruthless multi-billionnaire. He is on the phone, refusing to lend money to a bank. The palatial office is filled with working people, including security men transporting big yellow bag of money, and two men discussing rumors of Gideon's plan to take over the plan. What you don't know yet is that Gideon will soon try to defeat the Fantastic Four. This is, after all, a panel from Fantastic Four #34 by the great Jack Kirby.
Blind Alicia Masters just bought the extra edition of a paper and thought one of the Fantastic Four could read it to her. Reed simply replied he doesn't need the paper to tell her what's going on, he just heard it on the news! Well, Ben doesn't like this answer and simply tells him to go polish a test tube or something, a reply used by Sue Storm two issues ago!
