The Construction Historian has had a wee holiday in the south of England and seen some nice castles. Bodiam has some classic examples of what happens to sandstone when you use portland cement mortar plus how much better a bit looks that has had proper #lime mortaring. @limefinishes.bsky.social

Hurstmonceux castle, now a Canadian university college, also has some dodgy bits but is mainly in good condition and has some pretty metalwork too.
